Castolin 18

CuZn-based brazing alloy with added silver. Silver reduces the surface tension of the molten solder and improves the toughness of the solder joints. Excellent flow and wetting properties. Good modeling properties. High strength and elongation. Smooth, dense and non-porous seams.

Applications
For joint brazing, e.g: Unalloyed and low-alloy steels (structural steels, case-hardened, tempered and nitriding steels),
galvanized steels (hot-dip galvanized pipes and fittings), copper and copper alloys (TS > 950 °C), nickel, nickel alloys, malleable cast iron (GTW), cast iron (GGG) as well as for gap brazing and build-up brazing of the above materials.

Typical application examples are
Constructions of steel pipes and steel profiles, piping systems, parts of stationary water extinguishing systems, sprinklers
water extinguishing systems, sprinkler systems, as well as running and heating systems. Sealing of heating radiators and compressed air pipes, joining of fittings and sanitary system components
made of brass and bronze, fittings made of iron and copper materials, applications on valve and gate valve seats, fabrication of tanks and domestic water supply equipment

Processing instructions
Clean soldering areas. Round off edges. Coat soldering surfaces with flux. Heat the tip of the soldering rod and dip it into the flux. Preheat the workpiece widely and continuously. Do not overheat. Remove corrosive flux residues.
Heat sources: Flame soldering (acetylene: neutral for copper and steel; oxidizing for galvanized steel, brass and bronze).
