Stick electrode for cast iron materials and steels
EutecTrode 27
Basic graphite-coated iron-based stick electrode for non-alloy cast iron welding (cast iron cold welding). Very good bonding and good penetration, even on old, oily or heat-affected workpieces. Fine flaky weld seams. Stable arc. Same color as cast iron.
The electrode produces a hard and dense iron carbide type deposit with excellent resistance to abrasion, pressure, and high temperatures in a single pass. It is excellent for bonding welds on parts highly degraded by oxidation, corrosion, and thermal fatigue. It can be used for casting repairs and wearfacing cast iron parts. It removes the Sand P excess on cast iron surfaces.
Technical data
DIN EN ISO 1071: E C Fe-1 1
AWS A5.15: ESt
Applications
Only for non-alloy build-up welding (cast iron cold welding) of cast iron with lamellar graphite, white cast iron, unalloyed and low-alloy carbon steels and corresponding cast steel as well as for buffer layers in cast iron joints.
Typical application examples are
Working edges of cold-cutting tools, annealing furnace grates, molds and buffer layers on castings that are difficult to weld.
Correction of casting defects and sealing layers on components with contaminated surfaces prior to joining applications.
Surfacing parts subjected to wear through abrasion.
Heavily contaminated or oxidized cast iron such as furnace grates, oil pans, dies, agricultural equipment, etc.
Processing instructions
Preparation
- Ensure that areas to be welded are free from surface defects, sand, and scale. Damaged and fatigued base materials should be removed using ChamferTrode 04.
Preheating
- Preheating is not generally necessary, but if possible and conditions permit, preheat the component to 150 °C to a maximum of 300 °C. It is recommended that components are kept at ambient temperatures, allowing each pass to cool before commencing subsequent welds.
Welding
- Employ a near vertical electrode angle and maintain an arc length as short as possible. Deposit by applying stringer beads ensuring that the depth of deposit is as thin as possible to avoid local overheating and minimize dilution. Limit each weld to between 2-5 cm (1"-2") and ensure that the workpiece is kept as cool as possible throughout the welding operation.
- For joining applications and the repair of cracks, complete the joint by using Xuper 2240, XHD 2230.
- The machinability of EutecTrode 27 is poor and therefore may only be effectively prepared by grinding.
Welding positions: all, except PG (f)
Type of current: = (+)
Packaging and Storage
- Safely stack and store electrodes in a dry location to avoid humidity pick up or coating damage. Should electrodes become damp, the following re-drying conditions before use are recommended: 150°C / 1-2 hr.
