Flux
Castolin 18
Castolin 18 is a paste-like flux made from a mixture of alkali borates and boric acid, which is intended for brazing copper and ferrous metals.
Technical data
EN 1045: FH 21
Product color: yellow
Effective temperature range: 700 - 1,000 °C
pH: 7 - 8
Density: 1.4
Applications
It can be used with all copper- and zinc-based filler metals, especially with the following alloys:
CASTOLIN 18 - 18 F - 18 XFC - 185
Castolin 18 is suitable for bonding copper and ferrous metals. It is especially recommended for galvanized steels.
Processing instructions
Preparation
If necessary, clean the joints and the surfaces to be joined. Round off sharp edges and degrease the parts with a suitable solvent.
Coat the surfaces with CASTOLIN Flux 18 using a brush. The flux promotes the wetting of the filler metal on the base metal. It can also be used as an indicator for the joint temperature.
Heat locally to the melting point of the flux.
Melt the end of the filler metal rod pre-coated with flux and apply to the joint. Allow the drops to bond to the base metal.
Spread the drops with a continuous flame movement. The filler metal is thus applied using a continuous dripping and melting technique.
Do not overheat.
Cleaning
The flux residues are not corrosive and can be left in place after soldering.
If cleaning is required, use a mechanical cleaning method: Sanding, grinding, scraping, etc.
