Flux cored wire for welding abrasion resistant overlays
EnDOtec DO*611X
Flux cored wire Ø1.6mm, 15kg
EnDOtec DO*611X is an outstanding alloy that resists abrasive wear and light impact in a hot and/or corrosive environment. Thanks to the high density of macrocrystalline tungsten carbides (MTC) in a low-alloy, solution-strengthened nickel matrix, the service life of DO*611X is about three times longer than that of other hot-melt coatings with a high carbide content. The special manufacturing process of the MTC reduces the tendency of carbides to dissolve at high temperatures. This makes DO*611X ideal for applications where contact with warm, abrasive media is required over long periods.
Technical data
Matrix hardness after welding (1 layer): 50 - 55 HRC
Macro hardness tungsten carbide: 1800 - 2200 HV
shielding gas: 97.5% Ar + 2.5% CO2 (ISO 14175 M12)
flow rate: 16 l/min.
Applications
Suitable for a wide range of wear protection applications:
• Dozer blades (earthworks)
• Asphalt mixers (road construction)
• Screws in pug mills (heavy clay industry)
• Augers of bagging plants (cement)
• Elbows (mining)
• Bucket cutting edges (dredging)
• Drill collars (oil)
• Ash removal plants (coal-fired power plants)
• Slag crushers (steel)
• Counter blades (logging and sawmills)
Processing instructions
Welding equipment
EnDOtec wire electrodes are suitable for use with most conventional DC power sources. Optimal performance is achieved with units that have a programmable pulsed arc transfer of material. Castolin Eutectic recommends wire feed systems with 4 corrugated rollers for Ø 1.2 mm and polyamide liners.
Preparation
First remove old weld material and worn metal with ChamferTrode 03/04. To prepare the joint, make a V-shaped (45°) or, especially for large cross-sections, an X-shaped cut in the parts to be joined.
Preheating
Preheating is not usually necessary for austenitic stainless steels. When joining ferritic and austenitic steels, preheating of the ferritic part may be necessary depending on its type and size.
Welding parameters
Welding current:= (+)
Voltage (V): 19–24
Current (A): 120–180
The productivity of semi-automatic welding can be significantly improved by using the pulsed arc technique.
Certain Castolin Eutectic equipment is equipped with a synergic programme with continuously adjustable parameters. This optimises the welding performance over a wide range of deposition rates with minimal heat input and also makes it easier to work in constrained positions. For more information, please contact your Castolin Eutectic application specialist.
Welding technique
When multi-pass joint welding in the normal position, the optimum penetration is achieved by dragging the torch at an angle of 70°–80° along the joint. When fillet welding and when welding horizontally/vertically, the best bead appearance is obtained by piercing the electrode at an angle of 60°–70°.
Machining
Use carbide-tipped tools for machining. Arc or plasma cutting equipment can also be used for machining.
