Stick electrode for non-alloy cast iron welds
Castolin 2-44
Basic graphite-coated Ni-based stick electrode for cast iron cold welding. Not susceptible to cracking. Good degassing and no tendency to pore formation. Smooth, stable arc. Good bath overview. Easily removable slag. Can be machined. Can be electroplated with nickel, chrome, etc.
Technical data

Applications
For non-alloy joint and build-up welding (cast iron cold welding) of cast iron materials such as malleable cast iron, cast iron with lamellar or spheroidal graphite and for repairing oil-soaked cast iron materials.
Typical application examples are
Cylinder blocks and heads, oil and water pumps, oil pans, slide and gearbox housings, eccentric disks, base plates of loom shutters, beater hearts, rollers, pistons, cylinders and sliding surfaces.
Processing instructions
Remove cracked and otherwise damaged material as well as the casting skin. Thermally work out cracks and drill off crack ends. Clean welding areas. If possible and if conditions permit, preheat the component to 150 °C to a maximum of 300 °C. Weld as cold as possible (≤ 300 °C) with short stitch beads. Weld workpieces subject to shrinkage with short beads (1 - 3 cm long). Immediately after welding, hammer off the weld beads when red hot.
