CastoMag 45267 Solid Wire Electrode

For fine-grained high-strength steels

Description

Solid wire for welding high-strength steels (up to 700 MPa) used in highly stressed parts of welded structures. The high-strength weld metal is alloyed with NiMnCrMo. Designed for use at temperatures between -20°C and 350°C.

Applications

Application Areas:
For joining quenched and tempered fine-grained high-strength steels such as:
S460N to S690N
S500W to S690W
S500M to S690M
For wear-resistant steels of the following brands:
N-A-XTRA 56 to N-A-XTRA 70
HARDOX
CREUSABRO
DILLIDUR

Processing Instructions

Preparation:

  • Remove contaminants, cracks, and worn metal from the welding area. Bevel the joints with V-, U-, or X-profiles according to the thickness.

Preheating:

  • Preheating depends on the carbon equivalent of the steel as well as the size, thickness, and geometry of the workpiece. Castolin Eutectic recommends:
    • CE < 0.2: Preheating not required.
    • CE 0.2 - 0.4: Preheating 100-200°C
    • CE 0.4 - 0.8: Preheating 200-350°C.
  • Note that 12-14% Mn steels should never be preheated and that the workpiece temperature during welding should be kept below 250°C.

Welding:

  • Current Type: = (+) [Electrode positive]
  • Possible Welding Modes: Short-circuit transfer, axial spray arc welding, pulsed arc welding. To limit heat input, prefer welding in the air-pulsed arc mode. The interpass temperature should not exceed the preheating temperature.

Welding Parameters:

Wire Ø (mm) | Voltage (V) | Current (A) | Wire Feed (m/min)  Gas (l/min)
