For wear protection coating of tools and molds
EnDOTig 54360X DW, Ø 1.6mm, 1.0kg
Metal powder-filled filler rod developed in-house for the repair and wear protection coating of precipitation-hardened materials. The TIG filler rod is made of maraging NiCoMoTi alloy for production welding of composite tools and molds using the TIG welding process.
The low-carbon special weld metal made from a maraging CoMoNi steel alloy is characterized by a relatively ductile martensitic matrix (40 HRC). This can be easily machined to a high surface finish using conventional cutting tools.
By means of subsequent heat treatment, the entire weld metal is homogeneously hardened to 60 HRC in order to achieve optimum wear resistance without the risk of cracking or distortion that can occur with conventional quenching and tempering.
Technical data
Hardness: 35 - 40 HRC
Artificially aged (550 °C - 3h): 55 - 60 HRC
Density of weld metal: 8.0 g/cm3
Max. Max. application temperature: 600 °C
Applications
Specially developed for the repair and maintenance of wear-resistant coatings on parts made of unalloyed, low-alloy and high-alloy steel and corresponding cast steels.
Particularly suitable for hot-work tool steels, especially for injection molds for the production of die-cast parts made of aluminum alloys, other light metals and polymer plastics.
Typical applications:
Tools and molds for cutting, trimming, shearing, embossing, forming, extrusion, metalworking, etc.
Processing instructions
Preparation
Grind off old weld metal and worn metal or remove with the ChamferTrode 03 (DC) or ChamferTrode 04 (AC) hand electrode to obtain a clean, even and crack-free surface. The surfaces of new workpieces must be free of oxidation, grease, paint, etc. Break sharp edges.
Preheating
Avoid or minimize preheating so that the weld metal can cool down quickly.
Welding positions
PA, PB, PC, PF, PE, PD according to ISO 6947.
Welding parameters
Ø 1.6mm: 40 - 100 A
Shielding gas:
(recommended) 100 % Ar
[EN ISO 14175 l1]
Machining
The hardened weld metal can be ground or machined using electrical discharge machining. The latter process (erosive machining) produces very precise, crack-free weld surfaces and eliminates the need for regrinding.
The weld metal can be cut using the normal arc process or by means of a plasma jet.
Heat treatment
The hardness achieved after artificial ageing depends on the temperature and duration of the heat treatment.
T = 550 °C for a period of 3 hours.
Cooling should take place slowly (50 °C / h).
