SafeCoat - Iron-based welding/laser powder for maintenance and repair
EuTroLoy 16056 - SafeCoat
EuTroLoy 16056 is an Fe-based alloy with a martensitic/ferritic structure after welding and high hardness. The alloy offers excellent resistance to abrasion and medium impact loads at temperatures up to 500 °C.
Coatings made of EuTroLoy 16056 have good toughness and can be machined with selected tools for high hardness (>60 HRC).
EuTroLoy 16056 is applied by PTA welding or laser cladding.
Technical data
Grit size: 150/53 um
Bulk density: ~ 4.5g/cm³
Melting range: ~ 1480 - 1520 °C
Hardness*: typ. 56 HRC
*The hardness achieved depends on the injection parameters and may vary.
Applications
EuTroLoy SafeCoat Fe-based powders are designed for resistance to abrasive wear and pressure.
Typical applications include:
- Repair of cast iron forming tools and dies
- Restoration and protection of machine parts
- Edge armoring of moulds for steel injection moulding
Character of the new SafeCoat (Fe-based) powder range:
- The new Castolin products EuTroloy 16039, 16045, 16050 and 16056 are carbon steel powders alloyed with Cr and Mo, whose microstructure is martensitic/ferritic after welding.
- Deposits from this alloy series have a medium to high hardness in selected ranges of typically 40, 45, 50 and 55 HRC. They offer medium to high resistance to abrasive wear and good toughness at temperatures up to 450 °C.
- Coatings made of EuTroLoy 16039, 16045, 16050 are easy to machine, for coatings made of EuTroLoy 16056 selected tools should be used (>60 HRC). Due to their high toughness, alloys from this series exhibit good crack resistance; there is no limit or restriction on the number of passes. The recommendation for optimum coating properties is to use at least 3 layers to ensure controlled dilution of the base metal.
- From a health point of view, the combination of these iron-based alloys without nickel content is of considerable advantage compared to other alloys used for the production of surface coatings.
