Brazing flux for carbides with Ni- and Mn-containing alloys
GreenFlux 1703 PF
GreenFlux 1703 PF contains more than 80 % complex fluoroborates. It was specially developed for brazing tungsten carbides on steels and stainless steels with brazing alloys containing manganese and nickel. It is free from boric acid and borax.
Technical data
EN 1045: ~FH12
Product color and type: brown, smooth paste
Temperature range: 550 - 900 °C
Density: 1.5 g/cm³
pH: 8 - 10
Applications
GreenFlux 1703 PF is used with silver alloys containing manganese and nickel, such as:
Castolin 1703, 8270D, 1702, 1704 and EcoBraz 38249B. It is recommended for joining hard metals such as tungsten carbide with steel or stainless steel as well as with copper and its alloys.
Processing instructions
Preparation
- If necessary, clean the joint surfaces and round off sharp edges.
- If necessary, degrease the parts with a suitable solvent.
- Coat the surfaces of the parts to be joined with a brush. The flux reduces surface oxides, promotes the capillary effect of the filler metal and serves as a temperature indicator.
- Place the parts in their final position. Set the torch so that you obtain a neutral or "slightly carburizing flame". Heat the parts to be joined evenly to the joining temperature.
- Place the solder on the joint, melt a drop and spread it with a continuous movement of the flame. The alloy is distributed over the hottest areas of the surfaces to be joined.
- Melt the filler metal until the joint is completely filled.
Cleaning
- The residues of GreenFlux 1703 PF are water soluble. They are usually removed by washing with hot water or by wiping with a damp sponge.
- Mechanical cleaning can also be carried out.
