157 Soft solder

for iron and copper materials

Castolin 157

Properties
Cadmium-free soft solder based on tin-silver. Excellent wetting properties. Particularly suitable for the food industry and medical technology as it is free of lead, cadmium, zinc and antimony. Tight, clean seams without reworking. High-strength, corrosion-resistant solder joints. Cold resistant down to - 200 °C.

Technical data
Soft solder DIN EN ISO 9453: S-Sn96Ag4
DIN 1707: L-SnAg5
Melting interval: 221°C (Sol./Liq.)
Density: 7.3 g/cm³

Applications
For gap brazing, also in series production, e.g: Unalloyed and low-alloy steels (structural steels, galvanized steels, case-hardening and heat-treatable steels), high-alloy steels (stainless CrNi steels), copper and copper alloys (plain bearing materials), nickel and nickel alloys, precious metals, lead and zinc.
Typical application examples are
Stainless pipe connections, sinks, covers, strainers, vessels and household appliances, copper pipe installations (hot water and heating), cables, lead pipe drains, floats, filters, metal goods, fittings, electrotechnical components, surgical and optical instruments.

Processing instructions
Clean soldering areas. Round off edges. Coat soldering surfaces with flux. Preheat the workpiece widely and thoroughly. Do not overheat. Remove corrosive flux residues.
Heat sources: Flame soldering (acetylene), flame soldering (propane/butane), solder bath soldering, piston soldering, HF induction, resistance heating.
