EnDOtec DO*503 S Flux-cored wire

Flux-cored wire for use with stainless steel

EnDOtec DO*503 S, Ø 1.2mm, 15.0 kg

Rutile-basic flux-cored wire for gas-shielded welding, designed for high-volume production and joints where high reliability and dependability are required.

Suitable for joining and fabricating 304L, 321 and 347 stainless steels with low carbon content.
Weld metal with a ferritic microstructure of 10.3 and 0.03%C max. Excellent resistance to intergranular corrosion and operating temperatures between -120°C to +400°C.

  • High arc stability.
  • Low heat input, lower dilution.
  • Excellent weldability in all positions.
  • Easy to remove slag.
  • The high deposition rate reduces costs.

Applications
Industries where corrosion resistance is a priority:
Chemical, pharmaceutical and petrochemical plants, refineries. Food industry: sugar factories, dairy industry, wine industry. Breweries and all types of boiler construction. Containers, heat exchangers.

Welding guidelines

  • Welding equipment
The flux cored wire DO*503 S is fully compatible with conventional power sources. Programmable equipment with pulsed arc provides optimum performance.

  • Preparation
Before welding, the workpiece must be prepared with a bevel for an X or V weld groove, which is particularly suitable for thick welded joints. The areas to be welded and the surrounding area must be kept particularly clean.

  • Preheating
Preheating is not normally necessary for stainless steels. However, if ferritic steel is to be joined to austenitic steel, it may be necessary to preheat the ferritic area, depending on the type and size of the workpiece to be welded.

  • Welding parameters
Welding current and polarity: DC= (+)
    Stick-out: 15 – 20 mm
    Ø (mm) 1.2
    Voltage (V) 20 – 34
    Current (A) 120 – 280

  • Welding technique
To achieve a better penetration for welds where several passes are required, the welding torch must be held at an angle of 70 – 80°.

  • Machining the weld
The weld metal can be machined or ground and can be cut with a gouging torch (Arc-Air) or a plasma arc.

  • Shielding gas
    Recommended gas: 82% Ar, 18% CO2 [ISO 14175 M21]
    Alternative gas: 98% Ar, 2% CO2 [ISO 14175 M12]
    Flow (l/min): 14

  • Welding positions
PA, PB, PC, PD, PE, PF, PG [ISO 06947]
