Electrode for wear-resistant coatings
EutecTrode XHD 6327
high-performance manual electrode, ideal for maintenance and repair work or for production welding when coatings of the highest quality, performance and productivity are required.
The special alloy composition was developed for the precipitation of primary, ultra-hard phases of complex carbides (Nb, V, Ti and Cr), which are finely distributed in a martensitic matrix with residual austenite.
This results in excellent resistance, even at high temperatures, to severe abrasion combined with high impact stress. The hot hardness properties of the overlays are retained up to
500°C.
- Ideal for thick, multi-layer overlays without relaxation cracks
- Very resistant to spalling and fatigue cracks during use
- Low heat input, therefore low dilution
- Regular, virtually spatter-free weld bead profile
- Good slag removal
Technical data
DIN EN 14700: E Fe2 (special alloy)
Hardness after welding: ~59 HRC (all-weld metal)
Applications
Developed for wear-resistant surfacing on carbon steel, alloy steels and austenitic manganese steels
Typical applications are:
Cement industry, mining, drilling industry, quarries, civil engineering, tool and mould making, etc.
- Hammers, blow bars, impact bars and housings for crushers
- Teeth and cutting edges of buckets on draglines
- Teeth and cutting edges of grabs on floating dredgers
- Core drill bits, drilling tools, scrapers, feed hoppers
- Dredge pump components
- Hot and cold machining tools
Processing instructions
Preparation
Completely remove old coatings or cracked metal with ChamferTrode 04.
Preheating
Preheating depends on the carbon equivalent (CET) of the steel and on the size, thickness and geometry of the workpiece. Castolin Eutectic recommends:
CET < 0.2 : preheating not absolutely necessary
CET 0.2 – 0.4 : preheat to 100 °C – 200 °C
CET 0.4 – 0.8 : preheat to 200 °C – 350 °C
Note: Steels with 12–14% Mn should never be preheated. The temperature of the workpiece during welding should be kept below 250°C.
Intermediate layer
For steels with 12–14% Mn, weld on an intermediate layer with the E 6450 hand electrode.
Welding parameters
Welding current: = (+)
Amperage (A)
Ø 3.2 mm: 90 – 140 A
Ø 4.0 mm :125 – 160 A
Welding positions
PA, PB, PC in accordance with ISO 6947
Welding technique
After striking the arc, pull the electrode at an angle of 70–80° to ensure optimum melting and slag distribution. If further layers are required, they should only be applied while the weld is still hot.
Processing
The weld metal is best processed by grinding. It can also be processed using plasma or arc cutting equipment.
