Castolin 690 SF CrNi steel electrode

for difficult-to-weld steels

Castolin 690 SF

Rutile-base coated, high-alloy CrNi steel electrode for use in repair and preventive maintenance.
The weld metal has high resistance to pressure, impact and cavitation with good elongation and high strength. Not susceptible to cracking. It can be filed but cannot be hardened and has excellent resistance to rust and corrosion. The arc is easy to ignite and re-ignite. The rod electrode can be welded to direct or alternating current. The welding bead is finely feathered and the slag is easy to remove. Scale resistant up to max. 1100 °C.

Technical data
DIN EN 14700: E Fe11
EN ISO 3581-A: E 29 9 R 12
AWS A5.4: E312-16
Material no. 1.4337

Applications
The electrode is used for joining unalloyed, low-alloy and high-alloy steels to each other and for surfacing these steels as well as for buffer layers.

Typical applications are
Overlay welding on pressing and drawing tools, molds and dies.

Processing instructions
Remove cracked and otherwise damaged material. Clean welding areas. Re-dry at 350 °C / 1 h. During welding, adjust the heat input to the component, its material and dimensions.
and dimensions. Limit the interpass temperature to 250 °C for large weld cross-sections. Weld austenitic manganese steels as cold as possible (below 250 °C) without preheating.
