EnDOtec EG 8336 - Cored wire electrode

Cored wire electrode for wear-resistant coatings

EnDOtec EG 8336, Ø 1.2mm, 15.0 kg

Iron-based metal powder cored wire electrode for the application of wear protection coatings and hardfacings for abrasion and erosion. The alloy consists of an iron matrix with a high proportion of unevenly distributed, ultra-hard borides, chromium carbides and intermetallic compounds. The special feature of the microstructure is the structure of the matrix, which achieves the highest hardness to date and the highest resistance to abrasive wear. These properties are retained even at temperatures of up to 750 °C.
The coatings exhibit hardening cracks and can only be machined by grinding. The number and size of cracks can be reduced by applying a buffer layer or preheating.
The cored wire can be welded over a wide parameter range, which also makes it possible to coat edges. The maximum hardness is achieved in the second layer.

Technical data
DIN EN 14700: T Z Fe 8
Hardness, 1st layer (matrix) : 66 - 68 HRC
Hardness, 2nd layer (matrix) : 67 - 71 HRC

Applications
For hard coatings on unalloyed, low-alloy and high-alloy steels in the steel, cement and recycling industries, mining and components of transportation machinery. Applications in the chemical industry and road construction can also be covered. The alloy is excellently suited for protection against abrasion and erosion, whereby no strong impacts occur. Application to cast iron is also generally possible, but not optimal.

Typical applications:
Transport and compaction screws, enclosures for crushing units, fan blades,
chain conveyors, excavator shovels, mill rollers, etc.

Processing instructions
Remove damaged material and clean the welding area. Preheat the base material to 100 - 300 °C and ensure slow cooling. Two-pass welds should be welded without intermediate cooling. Weld with a short, spray or pulsed arc. Use plastic core and contact tip as for aluminum welding.
For surfacing on manganese hard steels or air-hardening steels, buffer layers should be welded with e.g. EnDOtec DO*02 to reduce the number of hardening cracks.
